Big News! Canadian Provinces Are Picking People for Special Invitations to Live in Canada!
Hi everyone! Today, we have some fresh news about how people are getting invited to come and live in Canada permanently. This is about a recent invitation round from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which is the government department that handles immigration.
On June 10, 2025, just a few days ago, Canada sent out some special invitations. These invitations went to people who had been "picked" by a Canadian province or territory.
This is called a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw. Understanding this part of Canada's system for bringing in skilled workers is really helpful!
What is a "Provincial Pick" Express Entry Draw?
Think of Express Entry as Canada's main way of inviting skilled people from all over the world to become permanent residents. People put their information into a special system, and they get points for things like their education, work experience, and language skills. This is called their CRS score (like a total score on a test). People with the highest scores get invited to apply.
Now, here's where the Provinces come in:
Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories (like Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, etc.).
These provinces have their own special programs, called Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP).
Through these programs, a province can "nominate" (or pick) someone who they think would be a great fit for their local economy or community. For example, a province might need more people in a certain job, or they might want people to live in a specific town.
The Super Bonus: If someone in the Express Entry system gets "nominated" by a province, they get an amazing extra 600 points added to their CRS score! This huge boost almost guarantees they will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in an upcoming Express Entry invitation round. That's exactly what happened in the draw on June 10th!
So, what happened in the June 10th draw?
Who was invited? Only people who had already been picked by a Canadian province.
How many invitations? 125 people got an official invitation to apply to live in Canada permanently.
What was the "score" needed? The minimum CRS score for these invited people was 784. This might seem really high, but remember, these people already got those extra 600 points from being nominated by a province!
These "Provincial Pick" invitation rounds are a very important way Canada decides who gets to come. It lets the provinces help choose people who will fit best into their local areas and help their local jobs and communities grow.
