At HowToMoveTo, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our immigration guidance platform.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register for an account, complete immigration assessments, or contact us. This may include your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, nationality, education details, work experience, and other information relevant to immigration assessments.
We automatically collect certain information about your device and usage of our platform, including IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages, and other analytics data.
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience, and analyze usage patterns. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.
We use your information to: provide personalized immigration pathway reports; process your assessments and deliver our services; communicate with you about your account and our services; improve our platform and develop new features; comply with legal obligations; and protect against fraud and security threats.
If you choose to save your assessment report, we ask for your name and email address so we can send you a one-time sign-in code (with a backup sign-in link) by email. We use passwordless sign-in, so we never ask for or store a password.
We process your email address to verify your identity and to send you the one-time code. The code is short-lived and expires shortly after it is issued. When you save a report to your account, the name and email you entered during the assessment are linked to that account rather than kept as a separate copy. On unclaimed or expired assessments, these details are cleared.
Your sign-in session is held in a secure, HTTP-only cookie that cannot be read by scripts in your browser. See our Cookie Policy for details.
Where data protection law (such as the EU or UK GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances: with your explicit consent; with trusted service providers who assist in operating our platform; to comply with legal obligations or court orders; to protect our rights, property, or safety; and in connection with a business transfer or merger.
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
For reports that are not saved to an account, access is granted through a temporary session that expires after 24 hours. One-time sign-in codes are short-lived and are not retained after they expire or are used. The name and email captured during an assessment are transient: once a report is saved they are linked to your account, and on unclaimed or expired assessments they are cleared.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
You have the right to: access, update, or delete your personal information; opt-out of marketing communications; request data portability; withdraw consent where applicable; object to or restrict certain processing; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
We use a small number of trusted providers who process personal data on our behalf, under data processing agreements that require appropriate safeguards and confidentiality:
These providers act on our instructions as processors, and we maintain records of them and their data processing terms. Other integrations (such as analytics or payment processing) have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including by the service providers named above. Where we make such transfers, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Our services are not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on our platform.
