The route most people from Jamaica take, the mistake to avoid, and the facts that change because you are applying from Jamaica, each read from the official page it links.
Most Jamaicans who become permanent residents of Canada are sponsored by family: in the admissions data of IRCC, Canada's immigration department, sponsored relatives made up most admissions every year since 2022, with spouses and partners the largest group each year. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada can sponsor a spouse, partner or dependent child. Among economic routes still open, nomination by a province, which picks people whose skills its economy needs, admitted the most Jamaicans each year, followed by the Canadian Experience Class, for skilled workers with Canadian work experience. Jamaica also takes part in Canada's Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program, temporary farm work that the Jamaica Information Service dates to 1966.
Start with a valid passport: for a police record used abroad, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica's police, accepts no other identification; you first pay the fee at a tax office, in your own name. Seasonal farm places come through Jamaica's government, which recruits and selects the workers. The labour minister usually announces each recruitment in Parliament, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security hands out its application forms, which it says are not for sale, through members of parliament, mayors, councillors and its parish offices; you need a TRN (taxpayer registration number) and a National Insurance Scheme number. An interview, a criminal record check and a medical follow, then security checks by the High Commission of Canada and placement with an employer.
The mistake to avoid, if the farm programme is your plan, is a hasty visa application. The Ministry's criteria rule out anyone refused a visa by Canada, the United States or any other country in the past year, as well as anyone with a criminal record or a past deportation, so one refused visitor visa can keep you out of the next recruitment. Weigh that rule before applying to visit Canada or anywhere else, and make every application complete and genuine.
Express Entry asks a single applicant to show CAD 15,263 in settlement funds, about JMD 1,702,802 at the latest cached exchange rate; larger families need more.

Tests Canada accepts with centres in Jamaica include IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, PTE Core and TEF Canada.
In the 2021 census, 84% of immigrants born in Jamaica lived in Ontario, more than in any other province or territory.
Ontario is also where they are most concentrated compared with other immigrants.
