Pick your job to see who licenses or registers it in Canada, which immigration routes fit it, and your first steps.
Moving to Canada to keep working in your profession means clearing two separate steps. The first is immigration. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the federal immigration department, decides who can come, and Express Entry, its online system for skilled workers, holds some rounds of invitations only for people with recent experience in particular groups of jobs, called categories.
The second is permission to do the job. If your occupation is regulated, or is a compulsory trade, you need your qualifications recognized by the regulatory body for it in the province or territory where you intend to work. IRCC says the credential check you do for immigration does not give you that licence: you still apply for it separately.
Each page below takes one occupation and sets out what that means for it: its occupation codes and the training they usually need, whether it sits in an Express Entry category, who licenses it, and the first steps for people trained abroad.
