The route most people from Ivory Coast take, the mistake to avoid, and the facts that change because you are applying from Ivory Coast, each read from the official page it links.
Most people from Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) who become permanent residents of Canada are skilled workers, and many settle as French speakers outside Quebec, according to the admissions data of IRCC, Canada's immigration department. For French speakers outside Quebec, the main door is Express Entry, the federal system that ranks skilled workers by points and invites the highest-ranked to apply; IRCC's 2024 report lists Ivory Coast among the top countries of residence of invited candidates. A job can come first: among Canada's French-language routes, a Francophone Mobility work permit lets an employer outside Quebec hire someone who speaks and understands French at an intermediate level, for almost any occupation. Quebec, which selects its own skilled workers, also counts Ivory Coast among the main countries of birth of its 2025 immigrants.
An Express Entry profile built from abroad needs an approved language test result and an educational credential assessment, a report on what your Ivorian qualification equals in Canada. For a BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur), a higher technician's diploma, WES, one of the assessors IRCC designates, wants the final exam results from the Ministry of Higher Education, sealed or shared through Verifdiploma, an online verification service, and only a copy of your school's certificate. IRCC says citizens living in Ivory Coast request the police certificate online on the government's public service portal with their original birth certificate, and people abroad through an Ivorian embassy or consulate.
The mistake to avoid, when a Canadian employer offers you a job, is resigning before you hold the offer of employment number. For a Francophone Mobility permit, the employer must first submit the offer to IRCC through its Employer Portal and pay a compliance fee, then give you that number, which your application must include; a letter alone is not enough. Ask for the number, and confirm the job is outside Quebec, before you give notice or book a flight.
Express Entry asks a single applicant to show CAD 15,263 in settlement funds, about F CFA 6,255,547 at the latest cached exchange rate; larger families need more.
A qualification from Ivory Coast is assessed for Canada by one of these organisations: World Education Services (WES), International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) and Comparative Education Service (CES).
An extract of criminal record (Extrait de Casier Judiciaire, Bulletin No 3). Citizens living in Ivory Coast apply online through the government's public service portal, other residents at the Department of Foreign Affairs, and people living abroad through an Ivorian embassy or consulate.
Canada has no youth mobility agreement with Ivory Coast today, so citizens of Ivory Coast can join International Experience Canada only through a recognized organization that accepts them.
Tests Canada accepts with centres in Ivory Coast include IELTS General Training, TEF Canada and TCF Canada.
In the 2021 census, 77% of immigrants born in Ivory Coast lived in Quebec, more than in any other province or territory.
Quebec is also where they are most concentrated compared with other immigrants.
