The route most people from Nepal take, the mistake to avoid, and the facts that change because you are applying from Nepal, each read from the official page it links.
In each year from 2022 to 2025, a province's nomination was the most common way Nepali citizens became permanent residents of Canada, according to the admissions data of IRCC, Canada's immigration department, and many Nepalis come to study first: Nepal was among the leading countries of citizenship for study permits taking effect in 2023 and 2024. After graduating from an eligible programme, a post-graduation work permit lets you gain Canadian work experience, which can support a nomination, in which a province or territory selects someone it wants to settle there, or an application through the Canadian Experience Class, a permanent residence programme for skilled workers with Canadian experience.
If you plan to study, choose the school and programme first, and check them against the eligibility rules for that work permit: IRCC warns that graduating from a designated learning institution, a school a province or territory approves to host international students, does not by itself make you eligible. The study permit application needs the school's letter of acceptance and, in most cases, a provincial attestation letter, the province's confirmation of your place, which usually requires paying some or all of your tuition first. For a Tribhuvan University degree, WES, an assessor IRCC designates for foreign degrees, wants mark sheets sent by the university in a sealed envelope, or copies attested by its Controller of Examinations or Registrar's office and sealed.
The mistake to avoid is treating Canada's paperwork as the only paperwork. Under the rules of Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal's central bank, a student going abroad for higher education can send tuition fees and living costs as set out in the No Objection Certificate from Nepal's education ministry and in the school's own documents, such as its letter or invoice. Since the attestation letter usually follows a tuition payment, leaving that certificate until last can hold up everything else: arrange it before the payment falls due.
Express Entry asks a single applicant to show CAD 15,263 in settlement funds, about NPR 1,653,428 at the latest cached exchange rate; larger families need more.
A qualification from Nepal is assessed for Canada by one of these organisations: World Education Services (WES), International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) and Comparative Education Service (CES).
A Police Clearance Certificate from the Nepal Police, applied for online through its Online Police Clearance Registration System (in Nepali and English).
Canada has no youth mobility agreement with Nepal today, so citizens of Nepal can join International Experience Canada only through a recognized organization that accepts them.
Tests Canada accepts with centres in Nepal include IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, PTE Core, TEF Canada and TCF Canada.
In the 2021 census, 56% of immigrants born in Nepal lived in Ontario, more than in any other province or territory.
Compared with other immigrants, those born in Nepal are most concentrated in Alberta, among the places where at least 5% of them live.
