The route most people from Türkiye take, the mistake to avoid, and the facts that change because you are applying from Türkiye, each read from the official page it links.
In the admissions data of IRCC, Canada's immigration department, the largest group of Turkish citizens becoming permanent residents each recent year were protected persons, granted refugee protection after claiming it in Canada, a route for people who fear persecution that our refugee guide explains. Among people choosing to move, the same data put sponsorship by a spouse or partner who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident first. Next come Express Entry, the online system that invites the highest-ranked skilled workers to apply, through its Canadian Experience Class for people who have worked in Canada, and nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program, in which provinces choose people their economies need. Global Affairs Canada places the Turkish community mainly in cities such as Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
IRCC wants the criminal record certificate to include a search of archived records, the Adli Sicil Arşiv Kaydı, which you can request on e-Devlet, the government's online portal, or at the public prosecutor's office in your city; from abroad, apply at a Turkish embassy or by post to the Ministry of Justice. For a spouse sponsorship, IRCC's application package for Türkiye also asks for the Vukuatlı Nüfus Kayıt Örneği, the detailed population register record. For Express Entry points, WES, an assessor IRCC designates, assesses a Turkish degree from a transcript your university sends, electronically or sealed, plus word-for-word English translations.
The mistake to avoid is leaving military service, national service included, off IRCC's forms. The background and declaration form, Schedule A, asks for complete details of any military service, with no gaps in time, and warns that unexplained periods can delay processing. The spouse sponsorship package for Türkiye goes further: anyone who has served completes a Details of Military Service form and sends copies of every page of the military booklet, blank pages too. Declare your service however short or long ago it was, and keep the booklet and dates to hand.
Express Entry asks a single applicant to show CAD 15,263 in settlement funds, about TRY 528,003 at the latest cached exchange rate; larger families need more.
A qualification from Türkiye is assessed for Canada by one of these organisations: World Education Services (WES), International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) and Comparative Education Service (CES).
An Archive Recorded Criminal Record (a criminal record certificate that includes archived records): apply online through e-Devlet (the government services portal) or at the General Prosecutor's Office in your city; from abroad, at a Turkish embassy or by post to the Ministry of Justice.
Canada has no youth mobility agreement with Türkiye today, so citizens of Türkiye can join International Experience Canada only through a recognized organization that accepts them.
Tests Canada accepts with centres in Türkiye include IELTS General Training, PTE Core, TEF Canada and TCF Canada.
In the 2021 census, 59% of immigrants born in Türkiye lived in Ontario, more than in any other province or territory.
Compared with other immigrants, those born in Türkiye are most concentrated in Quebec, among the places where at least 5% of them live.
